This day, Jesus entered Jerusalem. He instructed his disciples, the apostles, to go into the city and find a colt, untie it, and bring it to him. He instructed them that when the owner of the colt asks them why they are taking it, tell them “the Lord has need of it,” which is exactly what happened, which was prophesied by the prophet Zachariah, that “he would ride triumphantly on an ass” (Zechariah 9:9).
We call this wonderful day Palm Sunday, as indicated by the palm branches that were laid before the Lord as he rode into the streets of Jerusalem.
